Who Am I?

I am a warmhearted and fun-loving human with a roll up the sleeves, can-do attitude. I am a creative ideas person and enjoy working across all aspects of the design process. I have a natural flare for administrative tasks and for project and event management.

I am a design nerd who loves research, crunching data and turning insights into visual artefacts. I geek out over a good spreadsheet or Gantt chart.

I am the proud owner of a ridiculously smart collie who keeps me in check and one of my favourite ways to relax is to crochet while watching TV.

Design Experience

I am a senior designer who has amassed over 18 years’ graphic design experience as an in-house designer, freelancer and sole trader. I have worked on the creative, client facing and administration sides of the design business.

My diverse range of clients include global high end corporate and luxury brands, international NGOs, health and wellness, tourism and sports sectors and SMEs. These are based in Ireland, the UK, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Professional Progression

I thrive through continued learning and goal setting. I have a HDip in Visual Communications (H1, 2003), BDes in Interactive Media (H1, 2004), Professional Diploma in User Experience Design (Distinction, 2020) and a Masters in Design for Change (H1, 2022).

My keen interest in client relations and staff management led me to pursue an Advanced Diploma in Coaching (Distinction, 2019).

Program Knowledge

I work in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, Invision and Miro. I am proficient in Microsoft Office and Teams, Zoom and Google Applications. I have experience working on the front and back end of website CMS and WordPress. I have knowledge of Google Analytics and SEO. I know my way around Asana, Slack, Trello, Workflow Max and Xero. I can work on both Mac and PC Operating Systems.

Interrupted by Cancer

I was living in New Zealand when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2017. I returned to Ireland after my treatments.

I decided to tick some bucket items off the list. I travelled to India, where I gained my 200hr Yoga Teacher + Ayurveda Training. I honed my navigation skills with Mountains Skills Level 1+2 Qualifications. I boosted my confidence and attended Creative Comeback in London.

Patient Advocacy Work

I have been involved in Cancer Research as a Patient + Public Involvement (PPI) representative since 2018.

IACR

I joined the Irish Association for Cancer Research (IACR) as a Patient + Public Involvement (PPI) member 2018.

In 2022 I was appointed IACR PPI Champion with a view to defining and growing the PPI agenda for the IACR.

I have assisted academics to effectively communicate their research to the public and also provide my design expertise and skills. I rebranded the IACR and oversee its conference collateral and website.

In 2023 I will lead workshops to facilitate a new initiative to foster future research partnerships between researchers and people affected by cancer.

Irish Cancer Society

I became a PPI advocate for the ICS four years ago. I have been involved in a number of media campaigns including interviews with The Irish Times, The Irish Independent and RSVP Magazine during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I am a PPI reviewer on PhD/Post Doc funding applications, the annual PhD Lay Abstract awards and the €4m Collaborative Cancer Survivorship Research Centre Grant. I was recently awarded the Patient Advocate in Cancer Research Champion Award.

Breakthrough Cancer Research

I have assisted academics in their lay communications and given presentations on Infographic best practise. My story has been used campaigns to promote the celebration of survivors and their lives after cancer.

Patient Voice in Cancer Research

As a Patient Partner with the PVCR I have taken part in communication and innovation workshops.
